Project Overview:
Detailed technical inspection of an 8-year-old residential building performed for Robertson Partnership Homes. The primary objective was to conduct a comprehensive structural audit of the roofing system and integrated solar PV arrays after eight years of operational service. The mission focused on identifying long-term wear, weather-related degradation, and ensuring all drainage systems remained fully functional.
Challenges & Flight Safety:
This operation was exceptionally demanding due to the building being fully shrouded in scaffolding. The presence of numerous protruding scaffold tubes necessitated high-precision piloting for close-range data capture.
Due to the hazardous nature of the protruding metalwork, the flight was executed under a strict, site-specific Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS):
• Close-Proximity Manoeuvring: Executed a high-precision flight plan to navigate the “obstacle-rich” environment created by the scaffolding.
• Hazard Mitigation: Implemented rigorous safety buffers and utilized a visual observer (spotter) to manage the risk of collision with protruding tubes.
• Operational Excellence: Adhered to the highest safety standards required by Robertson Partnership Homes for on-site contractor operations.
Results:
The inspection provided a complete high-definition visual record of the roof’s condition, allowing for a detailed maintenance report. By utilizing advanced drone technology, the client received actionable data while completely eliminating the safety risks associated with manual inspections in a scaffolded environment.
